Reduced Inequalities – Sustainable Development Goals in Syria

Reduced Inequalities - Sustainable Development Goals

Reducing inequalities has become an urgent necessity all across the world to bridge the existing gap between the members of society. Besides empowering minorities with the aim of taking advantage of their potential. As a result, we have an interdependent society in which everyone is respected and their human rights are protected. It is crucial to lessen the likelihood of conflicts arising within societies to solidify peace and stability among individuals.

Facts about inequality

Inequality is evident in both developed and developing countries. Its aspects are numerous and represented as follows: income disparities, geographical locations, sex, age, and race. In addition to the psychological and physical inadequacy, the sexual orientation and religious beliefs.

According to the United Nations, more than 70% of the world’s population now live in countries that have increased income inequality. This increases the inequality gap between peoples!¹ In the last three decades, one billion people have escaped extreme poverty. On the other hand, there is the poorest half of the population whose income has not changed during this period. Although the global economic output has tripled since 1990!²

The importance of putting an end to inequality

Reducing inequality helps to entrench justice between individuals and protect them from unfairness. Choosing the right people to work based on their skill and experience, apart from their sexual and physical differences. This will create a fair environment for all individuals. Also, this enables them to channel their expertise in the right field that is in everyone’s interest.

This simple procedure helps to build a new community that is free from inequality, insecurity, and all the reasons that ignite conflicts. It also increases the opportunities for acquiring skills facilitating access to economic and social prosperity and reducing inequality among individuals.

Moreover, forms of gender-based violence will stop, to make room for peace and understanding between individuals. All of these reasons lead to a better place for everyone which will reflect on expectancy and quality of life.

Inequality in Syria

After more than ten years of suffering from a lack of resources and a declining economy; the ability to achieve equality in various domains has deteriorated. This has increased gender discrimination. As well as its contribution to entrenching gaps and differences between individuals.

The most prevalent cases of inequality in Syrian society are:

  1. Class Inequality: 80% of people in Syria live below the poverty line. The country has an unemployment rate of at least 55 percent, and jobs are increasingly hard to find. While the majority of the population struggles, a few big business owners have established a monopoly over approximately 75 percent of the economy.³
  2. Gender inequality: Syrian women are suffering from social restraints caused by customs and traditions, hindering them from growing and finding their place. Besides the ongoing war which made things worse. We see how she is affected unfairly in comparison to men, and has to bear extra responsibilities such as: supporting her family alone after losing her spouse in the war or shouldering the responsibility of caring for their children and other family members. The risk of gender-based violence against her increased, and levels of female poverty increased compared to men.⁴

Entities working to reduce inequalities in Syria

  1. Uplifting Syrian Women Initiative:
A digital initiative that seeks to achieve gender equality and empower women by providing training and educational workshops. These trainings provide equal opportunities for both sexes and thus reflect positively on the economic and livelihood conditions in Syria.
  2. Ahmad Humanitarian Project:
A humanitarian medical project that helps low-income people with health care at low cost or free of charge. The project aims to create a healthy society without looking at the class background, thus reducing inequalities in society.
  3. Light Initiative:
An independent, non-profit initiative that seeks to provide fair educational opportunities for the blind. Scientific content is also available in suitable formats, in order to ensure their chance in having proper education during several stages.

A person who lost one of their 5 senses, or who suffers from some physical Impairment, has no less importance than a person with full senses. What distinguishes us as human beings is our humanity, our minds, and our skills, and the basis for the progress of any society begins with justice and ensuring human rights. Therefore, we have to start with ourselves as individuals, to accept and respect others regardless of their physical, racial, and cultural differences, and to deal with mercy and tolerance with all of our fellow human beings.

Bullying

Bullying

Many people of all different ages are bullied on a daily basis. It may be from a stranger, and it is harder when it comes from someone close, like family members or friends.
“People can forget what you said and did, but they can never forget the way you made them feel.” Those were the words of a person who had been bullied.
If we pause for a second, we can think of at least one person we know who might have been subjected to some sort of bullying. The resonating effect of these words remains in their memories and is reflected in their behavior.
In this article, we will learn about the phenomenon of bullying, the different places it can happen in, its effects and forms.

What is the phenomenon of bullying?

Bullying is a social problem faced by many individuals around the world. It is defined as aggressive behavior in which verbal or physical violence or psychological abuse is used to harm another person repeatedly.²
Bullying affects the mental health of the bullied person. Sometimes impacting their physical health and even safety. It also has an effect on their social and emotional relationships.²

What are the places where bullying can happen?

Bullying is prevalent in various places, from schools to workplaces and social media. Although it can occur in every age group, it is particularly common among children and teenagers.
Children and teenagers are trying very hard to prove themselves in different ways. Unfortunately, it may include rejecting and hating all that is different from them, hence bullying.²

What are the forms of bullying?

The most common forms are: insulting, threatening, taunting, ignoring, and physical harm.
Bullying may also be carried out directly or indirectly, it may be visible to others or hidden from plain sight.²

What are the effects?

People who are bullied suffer from negative mental and emotional health effects, starting with low self-esteem and a desire for isolation, to feeling depression and anxious, which can then lead to suicidal ideation.
It can also give rise to problems with learning, concentration, and academic achievements. Bullying may affect the bullied immediately, or continue to have an impact long after the incident is over.³

How to reduce this phenomenon?

The phenomenon of bullying is a serious issue that requires strict intervention measures from society. Schools, parents, humanitarian communities, and the media must work together to combat it, educate people about its harms, and how to act to reduce its effects.¹

Some of the things that can be done include:

  1. Schools’ adaptations of firm policies against bullying and providing a safe environment for students. A child or a teenager at school can report what happened to them to the social worker. Then, he handles the matter in confidentiality so that the situation doesn’t embarrass the bullied further.¹
  2. Incorporating guidance lessons about bullying in the educational system.¹
  3. Parents support their children and provide them with the love they need. In order to instill the idea that they are accepted and loved in their minds. Thus fostering self-confidence and enhancing their positive traits.
  4. Parents encourage their children to share their experiences. And seek help when needed with trusted people at school and home.²
  5. Parents Instill positive thoughts in their children’s minds about accepting others’ differences, and providing support if they can.²
  6. Communities provide necessary resources for individuals who have been bullied. Including psychological counseling and emotional support. These resources should be available to the entire society.
  7. Associations and NGOs provide psychological support, awareness, and rehabilitation to individuals affected by it.

In short, the whole society must work hand in hand to combat bullying. Whether by educating people about its harms, or how to act when they face it. Also provide the necessary resources to help individuals who suffer from it. With joint efforts, a more respectful, tolerant, and cooperative society can be built.

These symptoms are the most common associated symptoms. However, they can differ from one woman to another. So we encourage ypu to visit a doctor if you experience any pain or discomfort in the vulvar area.

What Are the Causes of Vulvodynia?

This problem may be caused by:

  • An entrapped nerve.
  • Previous acute vaginitis.

There are also some non-neurological factors that can lead to this condition, including:

  • Hormonal changes.
  • Allergies or sensitive skin.
  • Spasms or weakness in the pelvic floor muscles that support the uterus, bladder and intestines.

Vulvodynia is not contagious, and it is absolutely not related to personal hygiene, nor is it a sign of any other disease. However it is important to be examined by a doctor to rule out any serious problems or diseases and to treat this pain. Also, the doctor may not be able to identify or predict the exact cause.¹ ²

How Can Vulvodynia Be Treated and Avoided?

There are several treatment options that a doctor may suggest to help alleviate and reduce the impact of vulvodynia on your life. These options include:

  1. Topical medications, such as certain types of creams or ointments that numb or treat the area of pain.
  2. Some oral medications, including antidepressants which can help reduce nerve pain in the vulvar area. It is not recommended to take these medications without a prescription.
  3. Physical therapy; it helps relax the muscles in the pelvic and vulvar area, potentially contributing to pain relief.
  4. In some rare cases, surgery may be necessary.² ³

You may need to try more than one treatment to determine the most suitable and effective option for your condition. There is no specific or fixed time for treatment and recovery, but it may take several months. Therefore, it is crucial to follow the doctor’s instructions.

Tips to Avoid Injury

There are some general tips and measures that can be followed to avoid experiencing or living with vulvodynia, of which:

  1. Avoiding stress.
  2. Avoiding tight-fitting clothes.² ³
  3. Wearing cotton underwear.
  4. Avoiding scented sanitary products.

If you have vulvodynia, do not ignore your symptoms, regardless of their severity. Vulvodynia can cause emotional problems, decreased libido, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and many other complications that affect your quality of life. It is also important not to be embarrassed discussing these symptoms and visiting a doctor. The doctor can help you relieve this pain, regardless of its cause.

We, at Uplifting Syrian Women Initiative, emphasise the importance of raising awareness about pain and diseases in the genital areas. We also encourage all women to speak up about any concerns they have regarding their sexual health, as they are nothing to feel embarrassed about.

Ulfat Idlibi

Ulfat Idlibi – A Woman of History

Ulfat Idlibi

Ulfat Idlibi - Woman of History

Ulfat Idlibi is a Syrian writer from Damascus. She is one of the most prominent literary figures in Syria and across the Arab world.

Her work, including poetry, stories, and novels, has enriched Syrian history with a distinctive literary repertoire. And some of it has been adapted into series and films. She was a promising young woman who loved literature. She spent a lot of her time engrossed in reading until she became a mature, educated woman. Until she was familiar with the works of Arab and international literature.

She considered literature to be a mirror that reflects reality and a tool for change in society. Some of her work addressed women’s issues and rights in society, and those writings were admired by the Arab public. Ulfat was also recognized by many Syrian writers as an inspiring and influential writer in the Arab world.

Who is Ulfat Idlibi?

Ulfat Umar Pasha al-Idlibi is a Syrian writer, born in 1912 in Damascus – Al-Salihiya neighborhood. She was the only daughter among five male siblings. Her father is Omar Pasha al-Adlibi, whose lineage goes back to an original Damascene family. And her mother, Najiba al-Dagestani, whose origin goes back to a Dagestani family. As for her grandfather, Muhammad al-Halabi, he lived in Dagestan until the Ottoman Sultan Mahmoud II exiled him and forced him to leave his homeland and settle in Syria.¹

At the age of nine, she contracted typhoid fever and suffered greatly from it. This caused her to fall behind a whole year in school. Then she joined Al-Afif School, which was near her house. Ulfat Idlibi’s talent emerged at a young age, as a result of her love for study and her excellence in it.

In 1927 she obtained her primary school certificate. She then moved to the Teachers’ House, a school that had a small number of male and female students in each class. She received her education there at the hands of distinguished teachers such as Sadiq al-Naqshbandi and Mohiuddin al-Safrajlani.

What about Ulfat Idlibi’s vision in literature?

Ulfat loved literature from a young age, so much that one of her teachers predicted that she would become a writer, which turned out to be true. In addition to her excellence in school, she was an avid reader and was familiar with the books in her father’s library. After giving birth to her first child in 1932, she fell ill for a year, and during this period she resorted to reading in order to relieve her pain and illness.

She read books written by international and Arab authors, such as the works of Michael Naima, Gibran Khalil Gibran, Taha Hussein, and others. This contributed to the formation of her unique style of writing of stories and novels, which was distinctive and simple.

Ulfat Idlibi believed in literature as a means through which she could improve society. At a time when Damascus was suffering from the scourge of occupation and was witnessing the early stages of eradication of illiteracy. As love for science and learning about other cultures spread during that period. At that time, many great writers emerged, as did Ulfat Idlibi, with her stories, literary studies, and novels.

What are the most important achievements of Ulfat Idlibi?

Al-Idlibi was affiliated with many charity and cultural societies, such as the Doha Society and the Nadwa Society. She even used to hold monthly seminars in her house, in which she gathered the writers of Damascus, including female writers, and intellectuals, to exchange opinions and ideas.²

She began creating her literary legacy by writing her first story in 1947, entitled “The Last Decision”. Subsequently, literary productions followed. After that, her literary productions continued, and in 1953 she published her second story, “The Harsh Lesson”. In addition, many other books, such as: “The Monoliths in Damascus”, the short story collection “The Devil Laughs”, and the novel “The Tale of My Grandfather”.

Ulfat Idlibi’s work later gained international fame and was published in other languages such as Italian, Spanish, German, and Russian.³ Some of her stories were also taught in many international universities.

In 1947, she won the British Broadcasting Corporation Award for Best Arabic Story for her collection of short stories, “Shamiya Stories.” The Egyptian magazine “Al-Risala” also published her story “The Harsh Lesson”.

Her work has won the approval of senior writers. Who testified to the ingenuity of Ulfat Idlibi. Among them was the Egyptian writer Muhammad al-Mandour, who said about her first collection of stories: “These stories are of a unique style and  distinctive  features.”

Writer Maroun Abboud also said about her: “I believe in individualism, and on this basis, I built my appreciation for her.”³

What is Ulfat Idlibi’s influence on feminist literature?

Ulfat was one of the first to carry the banner of feminism in Syria. And one of the few women who were able to demonstrate the high status of women in society. In addition to defending their right to education and work at that time. She believed that a woman is not only a mother, but that she can also dedicate herself to work, study, and love for science and literature.

She took great care to depict women’s feelings in a large part of her writings. This happened during the French occupation, such as “Damascus, the Smile of Sadness”, a novel on revolution, women, and society. Where she focused on women and their suffering. The hero of that story was a girl named Sabria, an educated, ambitious girl who suffered prejudice at the hands of her father and two brothers, at a time period that was unforgiving to women.

In 1992, the novel was turned into a series called “Basma Hazan”. In 2008, it was adapted into a movie with the same title, and they were a remarkable success at the time.⁴

Ulfat Idlibi said of women: “Aren’t women  the true source of inspiration, the magic of passion, and the bliss of times?”

Ulfat Idlibi was one of the most distinguished women of the 1950s, and many great writers in Syria and Egypt have attested to her genius. She defended the rights of women in Syria and stressed the necessity of their participation in both education and the workforce.

Responsible Consumption and Production

Responsible Consumption and Production – Sustainable Development Goals in Syria

Responsible Consumption and Production

Responsible Consumption and Production - Sustainable development goals in Syria

In the process of ecological balance, living beings are classified as producers and consumers. When an imbalance occurs in the consumption and production patterns, the balance is disturbed and chaos prevails.

As for the human race on Earth, its existence and stability are bound up with the achievement of Sustainable Development and its Goals. One of these Goals is “Responsible consumption and production.”

What does “Responsible consumption and production” mean?

The term “Responsible consumption and production” refers to the capacity of human societies to sustain a steady and upward trajectory. This is about achieving overall development, which in turn leads to the development and progress of societies.

Its patterns involve promoting resource and energy efficiency, and sustainable infrastructure. Additionally, it provides access to basic services, green and decent jobs, and a better quality of life for all. The Implementation of these patterns helps to achieve overall development plans. In addition to reducing future economic, environmental, and social costs. Moreover, it strengthens economic competitiveness and reduces poverty.¹

What does the commitment to “responsible consumption and production” achieve?

unsustainable consumption and production patterns lead to a rapid deterioration of economic and environmental resources. which hinders the overall development. If this goal is based on the idea of “doing more and better with less resource consumption”, it would require a systematic decoupling of economic growth from escalating resource use and environmental degradation.

The Commitment to this goal will result from the use of services and products. Which responds to basic needs and brings a better quality of life. While minimizing the use of natural resources and toxic materials. As well as the emissions of waste and pollutants over the life cycle of the service or product. So as not to jeopardize the needs of future generations.²

What are the objectives of this goal?

Since its adoption by the United Nations as one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in 2015, a roadmap has been developed within a global framework. This is in order to urge both developed and developing countries to move towards achieving its patterns. Its objectives were as follows:

  1. Implement the 10-year Framework of Programs on sustainable consumption and production patterns. All countries taking action, with developed countries taking the lead. Taking into account the development and capabilities of developing countries.
  2. Achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources by 2030.
  3. Halve per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels. Furthermore, reduce food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses by 2030.
  4. Achieve the environmentally sound management of chemicals and wastes throughout their life cycle, in accordance with agreed international frameworks. Reduce their release into the air, water, and soil. Thus, minimize their adverse impacts on human health and the environment by 2020.
  5. Substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse by 2030.
  6. Encourage companies, especially large and transnational companies, to adopt sustainable practices and to integrate sustainability information in their reporting cycles.
  7. Promote sustainable public procurement practices that are in accordance with national policies and priorities.
  8. Ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness of sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature by 2030.
  9. Support developing countries to strengthen their scientific and technological capacity to move towards more sustainable consumption and production patterns.
  10. Develop and implement tools to monitor sustainable development impacts for sustainable tourism. Which creates jobs and promotes local culture and products.
  11. Rationalize inefficient fossil-fuel subsidies that encourage wasteful consumption. This is done by removing market distortions, in accordance with national circumstances. Including restructuring taxation and phasing out those harmful subsidies, where they exist, to reflect their environmental impacts. Taking into account the specific needs and conditions of developing countries, while minimizing the possible adverse impacts on their development. in a manner that protects the poor and the affected communities.³

Syrian Companies for Alternative Energy

In recent years, Syrian companies have emerged in the field of alternative energies. They have provided a model for implementing the Goal of “responsible consumption and production”  by reducing fuel use and optimizing natural resource utilization. Especially in the event of power outages and resorting to clean energies such as solar and wind power.

One of those companies is “WDRVM” for Alternative Energies, which is currently focused solely on meeting local market needs. According to the Ministry of Electricity’s plan, around two thousand wind turbines are planned to be installed in the country by 2030, with a total capacity of 5,000 megawatts annually. This represents approximately 80% of Syria’s total needs.

The adoption of behavior practices by individuals in human societies that lead to sustainable consumption and production is essential for achieving this goal. Individual and collective initiatives around the world contribute to its achievement, no matter how small they may seem. Through waste recycling, clean energy production, conservation of water and natural resources, and reducing the use of harmful plastics, we will achieve this goal.

One might imagine that they are incapable of contributing to change in order to achieve balance, but small daily actions have a significant and effective impact.

Nothing is impossible when people and governments work together to preserve the resources of life for future generations and ensure the continuity of human life on planet Earth.

Bipolar disorder

Bipolar Disorder – Symptoms & Treatment

Bipolar disorder

Bipolar Disorder - Symptoms & Treatment

Bipolar disorder or manic depression is a psychological illness that has the person suffering from it live an almost double life, ever oscillating between overwhelming happiness and endless sorrow. Feeling exhausted living in an environment that does not understand the sudden and impulsive swings in mood, the patient is desperate to find stability in his life.

Keep reading to understand more about manic depression. Get to know its symptoms, and how to treat and deal with it.

What is bipolar disorder?

It is a disorder that makes the patient feel trapped seesawing between two opposite “poles” of mood. Life constantly alternates between two conflicting realities: elation and depression.

This is why bipolar disorder is also known as (manic depression);  a mental health condition characterized by severe mood swings. These include alternating periods of elevated or irritable mood and periods of lethargy or depression. These mood changes can cause a great deal of suffering and impair a person’s ability to perform their daily activities.¹

Bipolar disorder includes two types:

Type I: The patient experiences severe surges in mood and positive energy, along with sharp drops in mood and depression.

Type II: includes shorter, lighter periods of euphoria interspersed with long periods of depression.¹

The first type’s highs, known as “manic episodes,” can cause the patient to flounder between feeling irritable and feeling invincible. But these euphoric episodes go beyond ordinary feelings of joy, as they can cause alarming symptoms, such as racing thoughts, restlessness, rapid talking, impulsive actions, and risky behaviors.²

The depressive phase of manic depression manifests through several symptoms: low mood, diminished interest in hobbies, changes in appetite, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, excessive or little sleep, insomnia, or constant thoughts of suicide.¹

What causes bipolar disorder?

Researchers believe that the main factor is complex brain connections, Where healthy brains maintain strong connections between neurons and remove faulty neural connections.²

Using functional magnetic resonance imaging; scientists have discovered that people with manic depression have a disrupted ability of the brain. This means that neurons create a network that is impossible to navigate. In the presence of these confusing neural signals, people with the disorder develop abnormal thoughts and behaviors and psychotic symptoms.²

In addition, delusional thoughts and hallucinations may appear during extreme stages of bipolar disorder. The excessive abundance of a neurotransmitter called dopamine explains this.²

But still, we cannot attribute manic depression to just one cause. There are other contributing factors, for example, genetics, social trauma, and nerve problems that may arise and trigger symptoms of manic depression.²

Given the complexity of its causes, diagnosing bipolar disorder proves to be a real challenge.

The suffering of people with bipolar disorder

Virginia Woolf, Ernest Hemingway, Isaac Newton, Theodore Roosevelt, and many others are among history’s most famous figures believed to have had bipolar disorder.⁴

The French psychiatrist Jean-Pierre Falret diagnosed bipolar disorder for the first time in the 19th century and coined the term “La Folie Circulaire” or circular madness.³

Doctors need to diagnose bipolar disorder based on the person’s symptoms and medical history, as well as their own experiences, in order to administer the best treatment. Adding to the complexity of the diagnostic process, those surrounding patients with bipolar disorder often misunderstand them.

Not to mention that the patient’s lack of awareness of his own mental condition is an added burden. And If left untreated, the episodes can become more frequent and severe.²

The suffering is not limited to psychological stress and personal problems, as bipolar disorder may undermine educational and professional performance, emotional relationships, financial security, and personal safety of the patient.²

Treatment

Despite what we have mentioned so far, bipolar disorder is controllable. Some medications, such as lithium, can help manage thoughts and behaviors. This is done by reducing abnormal activity in the brain, which leads to the strengthening of neural connections.

Other frequently used drugs include antipsychotics, which alter the effects of dopamine. Doctors may resort to electroconvulsive therapy, which is used to treat emergency situations.³

In addition to medication, psychotherapy can be of great help. For example, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) may help patients understand their condition, manage stress, and develop healthy coping strategies.³ People with bipolar disorder can commit to a number of simple changes in their lives and habits, such as exercise, better sleep habits, and sobriety from alcohol.²

How to deal with patients with the disorder

Supporting individuals with bipolar disorder requires education, communication, and empathy. It is imperative to provide a supportive and understanding network and encourage individuals to seek help from a mental health professional during depressive episodes. This can help the patient establish a healthy daily routine, practice self-care, and find stability.¹

On a final note, about 1 to 3% of adults worldwide experience a wide range of symptoms that indicate bipolar disorder. Most of these people are functional and contributing members of society.² This disorder does not control their lives, choices or relationships. However, for others the consequences are far more serious, so being aware of its concept, symptoms, causes, treatment options, and support methods is essential to create an environment that promotes stability and comfort for those patients.

By raising awareness, fostering empathy, and providing practical help, we can support individuals with bipolar disorder and effectively help them lead normal and fulfilling lives.

Uterine fibroids

Uterine fibroids- Symptoms and Treatment

Uterine fibroids

Uterine fibroids- Symptoms and treatment

Uterine fibroids are “benign tumors of the uterus.” Did you know they existed?

We often feel a sense of dread when we hear the word “tumor”. But not all female tumors are scary or cause for great concern. There are even many benign tumors without glaring symptoms or serious warnings. It is worth noting that the word tumor does not mean cancer. The tumor is a collection of abnormal cells from the normal state. The tumor can be benign or cancerous.

Although there are no clear causes of uterine fibroids, some possible causes can be narrowed down. Also, the symptoms that appear with these tumors differ from one patient to another. Diagnosis and treatment methods vary according to need.

What are Uterine Fibroids?

At the outset, it is important to note that the word tumor does not mean cancer. The tumor is a collection of abnormal cells from the normal state. The tumor can be benign or cancerous.

Uterine fibroids have several names, including “leiomyomas” or “myomas”. These tumors are noncancerous and occur in the muscular layer of the uterus. It is worth mentioning that the uterus consists of three layers: an inner layer, a middle (muscular) layer, and an outer layer.

Also, these tumors rarely turn into cancer. They may be single or multiple, seed-sized, or become huge clumps. It is worth mentioning that the uterus consists of three layers: an inner layer, a middle (muscular) layer, and an outer layer. These tumors occur in about half of women over the age of thirty. And we see that 90% of women over the age of fifty may be affected by these tumors.² In addition, there are more than 11 million women affected by them in America alone.³

What are the possible causes of uterine fibroids?

The exact causes of uterine fibroids have not yet been determined. But there are several predisposing factors for these tumors:

  • Foremost among them is an increase in the concentration of estrogen and progesterone (the two female hormones). They stimulate endothelial cells in the reproductive organs to grow and divide. Therefore, their increase will lead to the occurrence of fibroids.
  • Genetic changes play a role in their occurrence. As many fibroids involve changes in genes that differ from those found in normal uterine muscle cells.
  • Lifestyle and nutrition also play a role. For example, not eating enough vegetables, fruits, milk, and its derivatives. As well as a lot of drinking alcohol, including beer (beer). All of this will lead to an increased risk of fibroids.²
  • In addition, menstruation at an early age, obesity, and vitamin D deficiency are all factors that increase the risk of developing these tumors.
  • Black women are more likely to develop fibroids than women of other ethnic groups. These women are more likely to develop fibroids at an earlier age, with a higher rate or a larger size. Besides the symptoms being more severe.¹ ³

What are the symptoms of uterine fibroids?

These tumors are often clinically silent and the patient does not show any symptoms, especially if the size of the tumor is small. If symptoms do occur, they are affected by the location, size and number of fibroids. In the event that the size of the tumor increases greatly, it will put pressure on neighboring organs such as the bladder, and thus lead to the following symptoms:

  1. Heavy bleeding during menstruation.
  2. Menstruation lasts more than a week.
  3. Pelvic pressure or pain.
  4. frequent urination.
  5. Difficult emptying of the bladder.
  6. Constipation.
  7. Pain in the back or legs.³

A fibroid rarely causes severe pain, unless it grows faster than its own blood supply and begins to atrophy. It also causes discomfort. It may lead to complications such as a low red blood cell count (anemia). Which causes a feeling of exhaustion due to heavy blood loss. But it is not a requirement that the patient needs a blood transfusion because of its loss.

Usually, fibroids do not impede pregnancy. However, it is possible that fibroids, especially submucosal fibroids, can cause infertility or pregnancy loss. Uterine fibroids may also increase the risk of certain pregnancy complications, such as placental abruption, fetal growth restriction, and premature birth.²

How is the diagnosis made?

These tumors are often discovered incidentally during a pelvic exam or ultrasound during pregnancy. In addition, the prolonged period of menstruation for more than seven days, along with the presence of profuse bleeding, makes us suspect the presence of fibroids.² The diagnosis is made by means of an ultrasound imaging device (echocardiography), at which time an irregular shape of the uterus is observed, which indicates fibroids.

If the doctor doesn’t get enough information from a conventional echocardiogram, he or she may order other imaging tests. Ex: magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), hysterosalpingography, hysterosalpingography, hysterosalpingography, hysteroscopy.¹

What are the treatment protocols followed?

If the signs and symptoms are mild and can be dealt with, we only monitor and photograph every once in a while. Some medications containing hormones that regulate the menstrual cycle can also be used. But these drugs are limited to the treatment of heavy bleeding during menstruation and pressure on the pelvis. It is important to know that these drugs do not eliminate uterine fibroids, but only shrink them.¹ In addition, iron may be used to treat anemia resulting from large blood loss.²

The most important step in treatment is lifestyle modification and appropriate diet. The diet includes more vegetables and fruits and less meat. The doctor may also resort to surgical treatment. Either focused and guided ultrasound surgery.

This is done through MRI or using endoscopic radiofrequency. The second option is endometrial ablation when abnormal bleeding occurs.¹ Recently, new techniques have been developed to induce blood clots in the arteries supplying these tumors.  This results in a decrease in blood supply to the tumor, stopping its growth and leading to atrophy.

Uterine fibroids can greatly affect various aspects of your life. They can hinder pregnancy, affect marital relationships, and lead to other complications such as anemia. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you undergo regular examinations of your uterus to ensure it is free from any benign or malignant tumors.

Would you like to wrap up with an inspiring story from a marketing content creator?

If you’ve made it this far, then you must be interested in the world of copywriting and are probably about to embark on your own journey. Here is my experience, which hopefully is inspiring and pertinent to you. My name is Mary Haraira, and I’m a marketing writer. I have worked in this field long enough to have experience in different types of writing.

Some Tips from Mary

I would be happy to answer any questions you might have on this. But now I want to take the time to make a quick guide for you. I will share with you what took me years of work to learn, writing bad and great texts, and developing vast writing experience in the process. Let’s get started:

  • When you write, imagine that you are writing for one individual, not a crowd. This helps make your writing personal.
  • Use “you” instead of “we” or “I”.  This engages the reader, gets his attention, and makes him feel that you care about him.
  • Don’t be devoid of emotions! Try to empathize, and understand the desires of your audience and what influences them.
  • Don’t read about advertising writing alone, it is important to also read about psychology, and sociology, and master the basics of marketing. This broad knowledge helps you grasp different perspectives.
  • Learn when to think outside of the box and when to stay inside of it. Rules are necessary for clear instructions but there are times when you may want to break them to provide a more attractive and effective text.
  • Avoid cognitive overload, that is, try not to use sentences or terms that are too complex for your audience to understand.
  • Always remember that rules and tips are helpful, choose what is best for you, your audience, and your brand.
  • The only constant in copywriting, in general, is, in fact, change. And here is one of Jeff Bezos’, entrepreneur and founder of Amazon, most famous tips: “Be stubborn about your vision, but flexible with the details.”

Copywriting has helped many companies around the world reach their fame and success through proper marketing and the attraction of the right customers. Despite how clear the big picture might seem and how easy it might sound to perform marketing tasks, this work requires lots of practice and training to hone skills and talent. In addition, any job requires you to be diligent and conduct a good deal of research for the information you need.

Bacterial Vaginosis

Bacterial Vaginosis- Symptoms and Treatment

Bacterial Vaginosis

Bacterial Vaginosis- Symptoms and treatment

Bacterial Vaginosis is one of the most common infections that affect the vagina, a part of the reproductive organs during reproductive years.

It’s caused by the bacterial imbalance in the vagina that naturally contains both good and bad bacteria, both maintain the vaginal pH balanced, but their overgrowth for numerous reasons may lead to pH imbalance which it is crucial to prevent germs and vaginal dryness, eventually that imbalance causes infection.¹

What are the causes of bacterial Vaginosis?

Bacterial Vaginosis isn’t one of the sexually transmitted diseases, scientists yet can’t confirm the real reason behind the infection, but studies concluded that it’s more likely to affect ” sexually active women as well as women with multiple sexual partners “. On the other hand, it’s less likely to affect females with no prior sexual experience.

There are numerous factors that may cause a bacterial imbalance, thus increasing the possibility of infection, such as:

  • Stress
  • Using vaginal washes frequently without consulting a doctor.
  • Using intrauterine devices to prevent pregnancy.
  • Some medications like antibiotics are used to treat urinary tract infections and throat infections that may eliminate vaginal flora.
  • Vaginal douching may reduce vaginal flora.²

How do you know if you have bacterial Vaginosis?

You will notice many symptoms like:

  1. White or gray vaginal discharge with a fishy smell especially after intercourse.
  2. Burning sensation during urination.
  3. Bleeding after intercourse.
  4. Redness and itchiness in the vagina.

A specialized doctor runs many tests for a diagnosis like:

  1. Taking medical history from the patient.
  2. Asking about daily practices and sexual relations.
  3. Clinical examination by taking a swab from the vagina to examine under the microscope and confirm the diagnosis.

What is the treatment?

After confirming the diagnosis, the doctor will prescribe antibiotics whether given orally or applied directly inside the vagina (creams or vaginal suppositories), most prescribed antibiotics are:

  • Clindamycin.
  • Metronidazole.¹

The patient must take the treatment based on the doctor’s instructions to prevent recurring infections, a common situation that may happen after a few months of treatment which needs treatment with more antibiotics.³

The doctor may look for other possible factors of bacterial Vaginosis like decreased levels of Estrogen that may happen after menopause, then they will prescribe Estrogen vaginal suppositories to restore balance.

How to prevent frequent bacterial Vaginosis?

Bacterial Vaginosis may become a frequent issue for the patient, causing disturbances like burning sensation and pain during intercourse.

This can be prevented by doing some things that will keep the vaginal environment balanced to avoid such infections like:

  1. Change wet clothes after swimming or doing sports, moist environment is suitable for bacterial growth.
  2. Wipe from front to back after using the toilet, this prevents bacteria spread from the anus to the vagina.
  3. Keep the vagina clean by using unscented natural soap that doesn’t contain any chemicals, avoid excessive cleaning so the good bacteria won’t get affected as well.
  4. Avoid douching “unless it’s doctor’s instructions.”⁴

Bacterial Vaginosis is a common problem, but treatable problem. Simple measures can be done to prevent bacterial Vaginosis and other vaginal infections. In the end, an ounce of balanced personal hygiene and prevention measures is better than a pound of cure.
